Before you begin

Brand Intelligence helps you investigate where a name or phrase is mentioned. It can be useful for understanding discussions about your business or a topic you follow. The most valuable step is usually reading the source, especially when a brand name has several meanings.

Open Competitive Intel and choose Brand Intelligence. Have a distinctive brand name or keyword ready.

Using this page, step by step

  1. Enter the name or phrase and choose a results limit between 10 and 50. Begin with a smaller set if you are checking whether the phrase finds the right subject.
  2. Review the estimate and run the search.
  3. Read the mention text and any sentiment or connotation labels. Follow the source links to check what the author was actually discussing.
  4. Keep relevant findings for further investigation. If you choose the Page Keywords action, be aware that it can start a separate paid lookup.

A worked example

A business called Summit may find mentions of mountains, conferences, and other companies. Check each source before treating it as feedback about that business. A more distinctive phrase can make the next search easier to interpret.

Understanding what you see

Sentiment is an assessment of whether language sounds positive, negative, or neutral. Humour, quotation, and mixed opinions can make an automatic label misleading.

The returned set is a sample of available mentions. It is not a complete record of everything said about a brand.

Common questions and problems

If unrelated mentions dominate, refine the phrase rather than simply increasing the limit.

If a label seems wrong, rely on the source context. Do not treat an automated assessment as the author’s stated opinion.
